...

Gas appliances should really have a "WOF" regularly done to ensure they remain safe! Very sad day  :(

Very sad, my thoughts are with her family.

I agree, all appliances should have Flame Failure Devices, and a gas cert should last a 12 month period and be treated like a WOF.

...
The 30-year-old woman was taken to Whangarei Hospital from her Ruakaka home, after suffering burns to 70 percent of her body.

cheers.

Tragic.  I agree about WOF's for gas appliances - but the government would be loathe to do this and so would suppliers as consumers would factor this cost in when purchasing and probably stay electric.

Who knows if it would have made a difference in this case.  What a horrible, horrible situation.

From the "Northern Advocate" today mate.

Nineteen-year-old Lesley Anita Wehi Jack, died in Middlemore Hospital about 7.20pm on Tuesday surrounded by her family.

Little more than 24 hours earlier she had returned to her Ruakaka home in Tamure Drv, where a gas explosion ignited the two-bedroom house she had moved into on Waitangi Day.

Sad either way.

Any one know what happened, its a tragedy for all concerned.
