Gas Cooktop Question

Hello,

I'm getting a new freestanding gas oven and have two questions:
- Do I need to get a gasfitter to connect it given that it should have a quick disconnect fitting? (Or do I need to get that changed?)
- Do I need a proper splash back? I'm hoping to be able to not have that immediately but if I do that's fine.

The answer to both questions is yes.

ALL gas fitting work is certafiable and is definatly not to be attempted by they DIY bomb squad

You could put up some fireproof hardie board in the meantime until you do a proper splash back - you installing gasfitter will advise the type of materials you can use for splashback and the size.  Remember to get a gas certificate as well to ensure your insurance is not compromised - this is one of the reasons you need a qualified and licensed gasfitter to do the installation.   There is a good reason that splashbacks are required - and that is for your safety.

Cool, thanks for the reply.
The insurance thing keeps coming up and makes sense but I figured I'd ask.

Are there many gasfitters out there who could also certify the wiring to the oven (or vice-versa)?

There are a very few certifying gasfitters with a full electrical ticket - more than likely you will need a gasfitter to certify the gas side of things and a sparky to certify the wiring.  Simple, clean and most importantly from your point of view - safety assured.

What area are you in I know a guy in wellington that is a gas fitter and electrician.
