Bath with no overflow spout height.

Hi Plumbers

The building inspector looked at my bath and said the following.... "The bath has no overflow, so the spout that fills the bath can't be below the height of the top of the bath".  So in other words, if the bath was completely full, the end of the spout that's filling the bath can't be under the water.

I can't find anything online in the building code about that.  Can you tell me more about why that would be?

you must have an air gap seperation between the spout and water level to avoid possible contamination of the water supply through back flow through your spout into the supply main......

its in G12...under back flow protection....most basic form of.......kool

Yes, I've had it explained to me that the spout can actually suck water from the bath because of back-pressure and then that water could come out of the sink, or kitchen.  I've found a spout that doesn't touch the water so all sorted I hope.

The only thing you need to be aware of is " A registered air Gap"

This means that the outlet of the bath spout must be 25mm above the flood level of the bath (the top of the bath).

And thats it. If there are any more queries...... I'd love to hear them!
