hi guys/jax,"The Board have some $250k in their workplan for promotion and education" i hate to think what state we will be in if the board spends that amount of money promoting `how to complain about your plumber,gasfitter,drainlayer`we can all make mistakes that are easily fixed but if they find out about them first we will be TOAST, think about it,cheers

Hi Robbo I agree with you 100%.. If everyone knew they could get you in trouble because your council inspection failed, they would certainly take advantage of that as soon as they are unhappy for some reason. Where do you draw the line? In other words where does the PGDB draw the line. Do they involve an investigator for every complaint?

hi guys/plumber, yes it does`nt nessarsary have to be a failed inspection it could be because the client does not want to pay for the work, of course it would have to be a legitimate complaint but i am sure that the client does not get charged for a false claim,cheers

hi guys, i hope the Board are looking into these health and safety issues, disciplinary action here surely, cheers.
A man died after he was crushed by falling clay as he was laying a drain at a housing development in South Auckland today,
A spokeswoman for the Department of Labour said it was investigating his death, but could not comment further.
In January 2009, a 34yr old man died when 1.5 tonnes of wet clay collapsed on him in a trench at a site in Nelson.
One month later, another man died in Te Kuiti when the side of a trench he was digging for a sewage line gave way and collapsed on top of him.

i cant believe its going to cost me over $1000 to become a registered/licenced plumber, and then the same for gasfitting!!! god damn it! i already paid $5000 to go to polytec and they dont teach crap!!!, tutor walks in 20 mins late after getting a coffee, what a joke!!!

hi guys/roberto, if at all possible you younger guys should go to uni to study for a B.E.! 3 years then you would be able to plan a well paid and respected work life without the constant threat by some jumped up board trying to fleece you out of your hard earned cash in what is a low paid job, not a career, think long and hard before recomending the plumbing trade to anyone,cheers

Robbo - are you having a really bad day today?? 
Yes we have some issues in the trade at the moment, but it's worth the fight to try and sort it out.  As to young people entering the trade and finding the costs restrictive - contact your MP and let them know - put it in writing to the Editor of your newspaper.  Let the people who are shouting about the skills shortage know that the barrier to entry is COST - a ridiculously high barrier that is not justified.  Sing it from the roof tops - but don't sit at home and mope about it.   One thing you may be able to do is approach your employer and see if they can front end it for you and make arrangements to pay it off.  Many employers will consider this so that they have a fully licensed person added to their list of employees.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  Remember it is an election year and approaching your MP's about something like this is worthwhile.  Ask your employer to write as well - he/she could talk about how much the cost of training was etc and that now you are fully trained you are unable to practice as a licensed person due to the high costs of getting over this barrier.

hi guys/jax,i think the whole country is having a bad day, have a look at the news. Unemployment is up any still climbing, Auckland transport is in a mess just to name a couple. Christchurch recovery and rebuild is on hold while the minister Gerry is in Monty Carlo trying to twist the arms of insurers while construction workers twiddle their thumbs(wonder what the pies are like over there). i know that i sound a bit negative jax but look around you instead of saying "i`m alright jack", it`s very strange that amidst our 3yrs of recession administers like our beloved board seem to have side stepped it and continue to hike costs like nothing has happened. Have a talk to your M.P. you say what a waste of time that would be,talk is what they do best, that`s it nothing will happen,cheers
