The Amendment Bill has passed its second reading - by 61 votes for to 60 votes against.  It has NOT passed in to law.  There is a final reading - which may not be until after the budget.  Lobbying is continuing of Peter Dunne and John Banks who are the two that could make a different.  Labour, the Greens, Maori Party, Mana and Brendan Horan all voted against - National, Dunne and Banks voted for.  We are encouraging plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers to contact Dunne and Banks and request that they vote against the retrospective nature of this Amendment Act.

Bottom line is you still need to licence and pay - if the bill is defeated that won't mean you don't licence, it just means that action can be taken to recover about $1.8 million of Offences and Disciplinary fees and levies that have been collected illegally. 

It would appear there are quite sizeable per centages of practitioners who have not re-licensed, especially in the drainlaying sector. It would appear most Certifying Gasfitters have and this could be becasue they are the easy targets and because without a licencse they can't certify jobs.
