I'm a Canadian with 10+ years experience in the trade and have been working for a plumbing outfit here for 6 months. I do not have a level 4 equivalent from Canada, but am looking to become registered here. Anyone out there know if there is a way to challenge the NZ plumbing exam ? Or a way to become registered without schooling?
Thanks in advanced.

Ring the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (the Regulator) and have a chat to them - they have a licensing team who can explain the ins and outs of it all.  Bottom line is you need to satisfy them of competency - but I don't think there is anyway around not sitting the exam in your case.  While you sound like you have heaps of experience, you do need to know the NZ regulations etc and studying for the exam will help with this.  Talk to your local polytec and see if there is a study group etc you could join.  Presumably you are working on an exemption at the moment?
Have you learned lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you?  Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed the passage with you?  (Walt Whitman 1819-1891)  American Poet

Thanks for the reply Jaxcat.
I figured I would have to sit the exam, as that's what Cananda requires for foreign plumbers as well. I was more worried about doing block courses. But you've guided me in a great direction.
Thanks for the advice, take care!
